& Warehouse Facilities

Robust life safety and security systems for industrial, warehouse, and manufacturing facilities — engineered for the demands of Utah's industrial sector.

Industry Overview

Built for Industrial-Grade Environments

Industrial and warehouse facilities present distinct life safety challenges: large open floor plans, high ceilings, storage of flammable materials, heavy equipment, and 24/7 operations that make installation and maintenance coordination complex. PCS has designed and installed life safety systems for warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and industrial complexes across Utah.

Our NICET IV engineers are well-versed in the NFPA standards that govern industrial fire protection — NFPA 72, NFPA 13, NFPA 30, and the hazardous occupancy provisions of the IFC. We design detection and suppression systems that account for rack storage heights, ceiling configuration, and the specific hazard classification of your facility's materials and processes.

Code & Compliance

  • NFPA 13: Sprinkler Systems

Rack storage and high-piled storage require specific sprinkler design under NFPA 13.

  • IFC High-Piled Storage (Ch.32)

Commodities stored over 12 feet in height trigger additional fire protection requirements.

  • NFPA 72: Fire Alarm

High-ceiling detection requires beam detectors or spot detector grids per NFPA 72.

  • NFPA 30: Flammable Liquids

Additional fire protection requirements for facilities storing flammable and combustible liquids.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

High-bay warehouses (typically over 25 feet) often use projected beam smoke detectors, which project an infrared beam across the width of the space and detect smoke obscuration. For facilities with rack storage, in-rack detectors and sprinklers may also be required. PCS designs detection strategies based on ceiling height, storage configuration, and occupancy classification.

Yes. Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) sprinkler systems are commonly used in high-bay warehouses because they can suppress fires in high-piled storage without requiring in-rack sprinklers. PCS designs and installs ESFR systems and coordinates the hydraulic calculations and water supply analysis required for these systems.

Yes. PCS has extensive experience coordinating life safety system installation in occupied and operating industrial facilities. We work with facility management to schedule work during off-shifts, around operational equipment, and in phases that minimize disruption to warehouse operations.
