Most commercial fire alarm systems are required by NFPA 72 and local codes to have their signals monitored by a listed supervising station (central station). This means you cannot simply have an alarm that sounds on-site — it must report to a monitoring service that can dispatch the fire department. PCS handles all aspects of central station enrollment and compliance.

Central station operators are required to attempt to verify the alarm and notify the fire department within 90 seconds of receiving a signal, per NFPA 72 and UL 827 standards. In practice, most verified alarms result in dispatch within 60 seconds.
